Application Essay to the University of Cincinnati
Soaring through the air like an eagle. So much power. So much freedom. So much control. The wind flowing through my hair; able to look down upon world. Everything looking so small in comparison. So miniscule. It excites me sometimes, To think about flight. To be able to experience the world from above.
If I could have just one superpower, It would be flight. Maybe it’s the thought of being different. Maybe it’s the thought of escaping. Maybe. I’ll never know. All I know is that I have been mesmerized by the thought of flight all my life. From reading Greek mythology such as Daedalus and Icarus, to the pop culture series, Maximum Ride. I just can’t get enough. It is a catch 22, because the more I try to fill my need of flight, the more I need it; and the more I need it, the more I try to fill said need.
There are many reasons why I wish I could fly. Assuming my power let me fly at supersonic speeds, I could travel where ever I felt like flying. I could start off with an exquisite Japanese breakfast at the famous restaurant, Anzu, in San Francisco, California. Sneak a peak of the Acropolis of Athens by noon, and for dinner, Noma, in Denmark. All in just one day. Let’s just say I would have no problems impressing ladies on first dates.
Sometimes I want to be able to fly so I can just get away. It is bad to run away from your problems, and I would never do that, but everyone needs some “alone time.” Just to be able to fly to some beautiful, scenic place and just think could fix anything. Just get away, “...just lay here....and just forget the world” (Lyrics from Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars). Who knows, I could even fly away and do anything I want when I'm bored or looking for something to do.
Reasons like these are just some of the reasons why I wish to be able to fly. Reasons like these are what make flight the best superpower you could have. With flight you can do anything and everything with much more ease. Life would be so much better if you could fly.
